New

New

By: JP Leddy

Intoxicating,  the promise calls our spirits forth

to shed the mistakes and regrets  of the past.

Clean the slate and make it white

With champagne toasts and goodwill cheers.

A year ends and a new one ticks in.

We relish the “Happy” as we bring in the “New.”

Our hopes to change, to better, to improve are bright.

The countdown of time lifts hearts from despair.

That the future is new and the road is lined with  joy

As old father time departs and baby time is born.

How we live for the new , how it anchors our soul.

How  it is simply a rediscovery of  our human spirit

where time does not matter but the resolve does.

New is not new at all, but it simply is.

We just need to be reminded that it is there.

  3. The poem is dead on. For day out of 365, people feel reborn if only for a short time. Why? Because they wish to be.
